Zombies

You are dropped into a city at dusk. One of the people around you is already infected.

Zombies is a top-down survival game about lasting as long as you can. A patient zero is released into the city and starts hunting. Get caught and you turn, and then you are the one doing the hunting.

HOW IT PLAYS

• Stay alive. Your health drains constantly. Keep moving and find the green health zones to top it up.
• Be quiet. Running burns health and makes noise that zombies can hear. Crouch to sneak past, or duck into a hedge and stay still to hide.
• Use the city. Climb the stairs to rooftops, kick cans, throw a noise-maker or a flare to pull zombies away, and shove a zombie to buy a second.
• Watch the dogs. Dogs bark at the windows as you pass, and the barking draws zombies.
• Turn the tables. When you are infected you join the hunt and score points for every survivor you infect.
• Last the longest. The round ends when time runs out, everyone is infected, or one survivor is left standing.

PLAY ONLINE (needs the access key in the download file — see below)

• Quick play drops you into a public room. Up to 8 humans per room, and AI fill the rest of the survivors, so the city is never empty.
• The public room list shows what is running and how long until the next round. Need friends to catch up? Press "Another 30 s" in the lobby.
• Private rooms get a 4-letter code to share. You pick the map, difficulty, survivors and round length.
• Text chat (press Enter) and proximity voice chat: you only hear people who are near you, and quieter the further away they are.

HOW TO UNLOCK ONLINE PLAY

1. Buy the game (or pay what you like, minimum $1).
2. Download "zombies-online-key.txt" from the Download section of this page.
3. In the game press PLAY ONLINE, paste the key into the ACCESS KEY box, then press QUICK PLAY.

The game remembers the key on your browser. Solo play needs no key.

FEATURES

• Two cities (Dusk Town and a foggy Downtown), generated fresh every round
• Fog of war: you only see what is in your line of sight
• AI survivors that find their way around the city, hide in hedges, flee and shove
• Choose your own look and name; survivors react differently when zombies spot them
• Click-to-move or WASD, with a fixed top-down camera: no rotating, no shaking

Move: click or right-click on the ground, or WASD

Throw an item: G (aim with the mouse)

Chat: Enter Voice: the microphone button, V to mute
Pause / restart (solo): P / R

GOOD TO KNOW

• Online play needs the game server and, for voice, microphone permission.
• Rounds with few humans are filled with AI survivors, so a quiet server still plays like a full game.
• Trouble with voice? Open the game in its own tab (the fullscreen button) instead of the embedded frame.
